IAYT believes that it is both valuable and accurate to say that we are in relationship with, and accountable to, a community of BIPOC yoga therapists, yoga teachers, leaders, and collaborators who help us to create brave and balanced spaces and relationships. Although all of us are affected by the hardships of the pandemic, we are aware of the disproportionate impacts on Black people, Indigenous people, and People of Color. At IAYT we acknowledge, honor, and commit work toward healing the historic imbalances between communities.
Many of us have benefited from White privilege historically through generational privilege and wealth. IAYT is invested in healing the intergenerational and contemporary trauma that all people experience due to systemic White supremacy and colonialism by specifically holding space for White people to see the ways in which these systems not only oppress others but also remove those of us who are White from authentic connection with ourselves, others, and the Earth.
As an organization, IAYT commits to antioppressive practices that include learning and growing as an organization that does its part to reduce harm and redistribute resources. May the work of reparations and acknowledgment continue to grow and multiply.
