TS06: Your Three Brains: Fresh Options for Perennial Challenges
Speaker bio: Laura (Atmadarshan) Santoro, E-RYT 500, C-IAYT
Modern research is confirming ancient teachings from tantra and the Upanishads: We each have three brains, not one. Review contemporary investigations on the cerebral, cardiac, and enteric brains; experience traditional meditative techniques for these three distinct akashas (spaces); and explore how to harness this knowledge to provide new approaches to supporting clients in experiences of anxiety, trauma, grief, and other enduring challenges.
Learning Objectives
- Integrate into yoga therapy practice Western and Eastern perspectives on physical and psychological frameworks of the three brains.
- Adapt yoga therapy practices for individual conditions, abilities, belief systems, and needs based on contemporary scientific and traditional yogic understandings of the cerebral, cardiac, and enteric nervous systems.
