TS04: The Importance of Collaboration: An Exploration Through the Yamas and Niyamas
Speaker bios: Patience Kaltenbach, MEd, MS, C-IAYT and Pamela Crane, MS, C-IAYT
This session explores the benefits and potential drawbacks of collaboration in the field of yoga therapy through the ethical lens of the yamas and niyamas. Participants will leave this session with a deep appreciation for the ways in which collaboration can benefit yoga therapists who partner with others. We will detail reasons to collaborate, situations that lend themselves to successful collaboration, identification of partners, and avoidance of pitfalls.
Learn from the example of how our practice of the yamas and niyamas has enhanced the collaborative process and facilitated a successful partnership. We will also engage in peer activities that employ the yamas and niyamas, including guided meditation to encourage intuitive awareness in the exploration of partnerships as a means of svadhyaya, or self-study; breathwork and grounding as tools to avoid potential conflicts through the practice of ahimsa, or non-harming; and journaling and sharing of experiences while incorporating aparigraha, or non-grasping.
Learning objectives:
- Use the guidance and resources presented to build collaborations and strengthen collaborative processes.
- Employ the principles of the yamas and niyamas to engage in successful collaborations.
- Reflect on past experiences and envision future collaborations through interoceptive techniques.
