TF03: Navigating Grief: A Holistic Approach to Health and Healing

Speaker bio: Sweta Srivastava Vikram, AD

Grief is a human response to loss. Grief doesn’t discriminate—it touches each one of us at some point in our lives. Have you noticed that we all respond differently when grief strikes? Yes, our responses depend on what the loss meant to us, but why do some people shut down and disconnect, some go on a bender or a rant, and others can’t focus and lose the ability to function during moments of crisis? And then there are those who become hyper-focused and productive in moments of grief.

In this session, we will explore the definition and understanding of grief from a holistic perspective. We will detail how to navigate grief through an ayurvedic lens so we are more compassionate to clients’ experiences—and our own. Our discussion includes short-term and long-term relief from grief, as well as practices of breathwork, trauma-informed seated postures, and grounding as tools to empower our own healing and that of our communities. A few shared stories and writing prompts support these efforts to find relief and peace. By the end of the session, we will be better equipped to handle grief than we were before.

Learning objectives:

  1. Understand grief from an ayurvedic perspective.
  2. Connect the impact of unaddressed grief to health, relationships, and overall life.
  3. Describe several holistic ways to support clients in finding relief from grief.
